The Mardi Himal Trek was officially opened to trekkers only in 2012 and remains blissfully uncrowded. The trail climbs a dramatic forested ridge directly toward the sacred Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) Peak — a mountain so revered it has never been summited — offering close-up views unmatched on more popular routes.
The final stretch to High Camp (4,500m) follows a narrow, exciting ridge with Annapurna South dominating to the west and Mardi Himal's glaciers directly ahead. The sense of being alone in the mountains is extraordinary. This is perfect for trekkers seeking adventure off the beaten path without extreme altitude or difficulty.
Fly or drive to Pokhara (820m). Trek briefing and equipment check. Lakeside dinner with Fishtail views.
Short drive to Kande (1,770m). Begin ridge trekking through pine and rhododendron forest to Australian Base Camp (2,100m). 4 hours.
Continue up the ridge through dense subtropical forest. The trail is quiet and beautiful. Forest Camp (2,600m). 5 hours.
Forest transitions to dwarf rhododendron scrub. First dramatic views of Machhapuchhre appear. Low Camp (3,100m). 4 hours.
Ridge narrows. Views become increasingly dramatic on both sides. Arrive at High Camp (4,500m) — Mardi Himal base camp views. 5 hours. Cold night.
Early morning walk to Mardi Himal Viewpoint (4,750m) for sunrise. Descend a different trail to Siding village (1,750m). 7 hours.
Short walk to road. Drive back to Pokhara. Afternoon free for lakeside relaxation.
Fly/drive back to Kathmandu or depart from Pokhara airport. End of Mardi Himal trek.
Winter Trekking: Unlike higher altitude treks, Mardi Himal is excellent in December–February if you enjoy snow, solitude and crisp clear skies. Require good cold-weather gear.
Combo Option: Many trekkers combine Mardi Himal with the Poon Hill trek to create a stunning 12-day Pokhara region adventure. Ask us for a custom itinerary.
